Carlosmomentjes, which I can dwell on for a moment

Jaap Bressers has been inspiring me for a number of years with his 'Carlosmomentjes'. Small gestures that are very valuable to someone else and many of which I have received during the search for my uncle and during the organization of the pilgrimage Walk for Homs. I am almost convinced that something will come your way and it must have happened at that moment. And over the past two weeks I had a number of 'Carlos moments' that I would like to share with you.

Michel Francis

I received an email from France from Michel Francis, who was a student, in formation with the Jesuits for nine years. It's great that people from so far are taking the trouble to email me and help with my search to my uncle, Frans van der Lugt. Michel experienced much of what my uncle did, as did his brother who was Al Ard's manager of the youth with disabilities program. These experiences inspired them so much that Michael has collected nearly all the thoughts and ideas of Frans van der Lugt and put them together in several books. The first is: the book 'The whisperings of the Spirit In the words of Father Frans van der Lugt'. However, this book is only available in English, French and Arabic. I did not hesitate for a moment and immediately approached a number of publishers to translate it. The following Monday I sat down at the first publishing house to talk. I have published it before, but it is and remains a new world when it comes to a 'real' book made of paper with a beautiful cover around it. That's why I started looking for people who have already done this to advise me.

From Jos Burgers to Joseph Oebelkas

Het toeval wilde dat ik net wilde beginnen aan het boek ‘De wet van Snuf’ van Jos Burgers. Ik sloeg het boek open en in de inleiding staat dat alle royalty’s van de verkoop gaan naar Stichting Hulphond. Ik heb geen moment getwijfeld en Jos via LinkedIn een bericht gestuurd. Binnen een half uur had ik het nummer van Jos en heb ik hem gebeld. Jos laat zijn boeken uitgeven, maar er bestaan nog meer mogelijkheden. Zo geeft Jaap Bressers zijn boeken samen uit met een uitgeverij, een vriend van Jos en hij zou mij hier meer over kunnen vertellen. Ik vertelde Jos dat hij een grote inspirator voor mij is geweest in mijn vorige relatie, ik al zijn boeken heb gelezen en dus deze kans niet aan mijn neus voorbij zou willen laten gaan. Ik stelde voor om Jos eerst Jaap te laten vragen of hij het goed zou vinden als ik hem zou bellen. Dat vond Jos een goed idee en we hingen op. Nog geen kwartier later had ik het nummer van Jaap. Jaap bleek na het weekend weer bereikbaar te zijn, want hij was met zijn gezin naar de Efteling om de toegankelijkheid van dit attractiepark te testen. Hoe leuk is dat en wat een eer om dat te mogen doen! Na het weekend heb ik Jaap opgebeld en ook Jaap heeft mijn kennis op het gebied van het uitgeven van boeken een upgrade mogen geven. En jawel, ook Jaap kende ook iemand weer iemand die helemaal zelf zijn boeken uitgeeft. Dus ook wel zo fijn om hem ook te mogen bellen. Deze persoon was niemand minder dan Joseph Oubelkas. Vorige zomer heb ik zijn boeken echt in een ruk uitgelezen. Wat een bom aan inspiratie over hoe je kunt omgaan met een tegenslag om kunt gaan. Het zal je maar gebeuren dat je op je werk in Marokko arriveert net als ieder andere maand en dan ineens wordt beschuldigd van iets wat je niet hebt gedaan. Je terecht komt in verschillende afschuwelijke gevangenissen en dan dit allemaal toch een positieve insteek kunt geven. Dus voelde ik mij weer vereerd om ook Joseph te mogen bellen. Ik weet dat hij in Limburg woont, maar even niet de connectie gelegd met de watersnood. Dus we hebben afgesproken elkaar op een later moment te bellen. 

Wat ik ook ga beslissen het zal vast de juiste keuze zijn, dus ik ga het allemaal op mij af laten komen. Zodra het boek in het Nederlands kan besteld worden laat ik het uiteraard weten.

Coincidentally, I just wanted to start working on the book ‘De wet van Snuf’ by Jos Burgers. I opened the book and in the introduction it says that all royalties from the sale go to Stichting Hulphond. I didn't hesitate for a moment and sent Jos a message via LinkedIn. Within half an hour I had Jos' number and I called him. Jos has his books published, but there are even more possibilities. For example, Jaap Bressers publishes his books together with a publisher, a friend of Jos, and he could tell me more about this. I told Jos that he has been a great inspiration to me in my previous relationship, I have read all his books and so I wouldn't want to let this opportunity pass me by. I suggested that Jos first ask Jaap if he would be okay with me calling him. Jos thought that was a good idea and we hung up. Less than fifteen minutes later I had Jaap's number. Jaap turned out to be available after the weekend, because he and his family went to the Efteling to test the accessibility of this amusement park. How nice is that and what an honor to be able to do that! After the weekend I called Jaap and he was also able to upgrade my knowledge in the field of book publishing. And yes, Jaap also knew someone who publishes his books all by himself. So it's nice to be able to call him too. This person was none other than Joseph Oubelkas. I read his books in one sitting last summer. What a bomb of inspiration about how to deal with a setback. It will happen to you that you arrive at work in Morocco just like any other month and are suddenly accused of something you didn't do. You end up in various horrible prisons and then you can still give this all a positive approach. So I felt honored again to be able to call Joseph as well. I know he lives in Limburg, so because of the flood we agreed to call each other at a later date.

Whatever I'm going to decide will probably be the right choice. As soon as the book can be ordered in Dutch, I will of course let you know.
